Hiking Trip - Marj Baskinta Hike - Maten District
Hiking Adventure in Baskinta
Join us as we explore Baskinta, a village whose name means "the house of wisdom" in ancient Syriac. Nestled between the majestic Sannine to the east, Bakich and Marj to the north, and Zaarour to the south, with a beautiful open valley to the west, Baskinta is like a geographical fortress.
This village is also the birthplace of the renowned Lebanese author and poet, Mikhael Neaime. Our hike will lead us through the vast Marj Baskinta pine forest, where towering trees create a serene canopy above.
During our visit, we’ll explore two significant landmarks:
Convent of Our Lady of the Assumption (Saidet el Bishara): Built in 1767, this convent is a stunning example of yellow-petro stone architecture, featuring majestic, symmetrical arcades, some stacked two or three high—a rarity in Lebanon. Its rich history includes a miraculous event that occurred 250 years ago.
Deir Mar Semaan in Ain el Abou: This historical Maronite monastery is known for its beautiful architecture. Visitors can purchase delicious homemade food products and wine here.
Moderate Hiking, Level 4:
We will begin our adventure with a visit to Deir Mar Semaan, followed by a short uphill path leading to a flat trail that offers stunning views of Kfarakab. Continuing on, we'll reach the village of Marj, where we’ll hike among a variety of trees, all while enjoying the breathtaking scenery. The trail covers approximately 8 km.
After our hike, a delightful lunch will be served in a charming guesthouse in Baskinta.
Join us for a day filled with nature, history, and wonderful company!
