Hiking Trip - Machmouche Qattine Hike - Jezzine District

  • The Jezzine District is home to several charming villages, known as some of Lebanon's premier summer destinations. Located at an average altitude of 950m, this region is rich in beautiful pine forests and lush fruit tree orchards.

    Our excursion will begin in the village of Machmouche, where we'll visit the historic 18th-century monastery, once the center of the Maronite bishopric. We'll also explore an ancient Byzantine settlement, famous for its man-made lake, which is fed by the Litani River through a 16 km-long tunnel. As we journey from Machmouche to Qattine, we’ll encounter numerous fascinating sights.

    Our first stop will be at B. Balady, a collective of landmine survivors who are now engaged in poultry farming, beekeeping, and herb cultivation.

    Next, we’ll head to Deir Machmouche, where our hike will begin after a tour of the monastery.

    The hike offers two levels of difficulty:
    • LEVEL 6 (14 km): A more challenging route that ascends through Aytoule, before returning to Azour to join LEVEL 3 for lunch.
    • LEVEL 3 (7 km): A gentler route that winds through the region's scenic pine forests.

    After the hike, we’ll enjoy lunch at a distinctive restaurant in Azour, part of the "Blue Jay" eco-tourism project, which also provides bed and breakfast accommodations.

    Our breakfast will be taken along the way.
